Lansing 2030 District: Committed to a Greener Future
CAFE is dedicated to fostering a sustainable and healthy environment for the Lansing community. An exciting initiative gaining momentum in the region is the Lansing 2030 District, a collaborative effort focused on reducing the environmental impact of buildings in the Capital City.
Supported by the national 2030 Districts Network, the Lansing 2030 District unites building owners, managers, professional partners, and community stakeholders to achieve significant reductions in energy and water use, and transportation emissions in the built environment.
Lansing joins a network of 25 established 2030 districts across North America - including three sister districts in Michigan: Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Grand Rapids. The vision of the 2030 Districts Network is to establish a global network of thriving high-performance building districts and cities, uniting communities to catalyze transformation in the built environment and its role in mitigating and adapting to climate change.
Lansing 2030 has integrated its efforts with the City of Lansing's 2022 Sustainability Action Plan (SAP), while facilitating a network of like-minded peers by providing access to the necessary tools, resources, and support to effectively pursue three common objectives:
-
Reduce energy use and lower operating costs
-
Promote economic growth and protect investments
-
Foster community connection and collaboration
The District accomplishes these goals through:
Tools & Resources: Lansing 2030 District simplifies energy efficiency and data tracking. Members gain access to benchmarking assistance, helpful resources, a peer network, and one-on-one support to implement energy-saving strategies and improve building performance.
Actionable Solutions: The District offers guidance on everything from building performance to employee commuting, helping stakeholders take actionable steps toward measurable impact.
Partnerships: Working with government, businesses, and community partners to reach the goal of net-zero emissions, the District expands on previous efforts and develops new opportunities.
The Lansing 2030 District is a collaborative effort and fosters powerful partnerships to create a more sustainable built environment. This initiative not only benefits the environment but can also lead to cost savings for building owners and contribute to a more competitive Lansing.
